Brochure

The Extron XPA U 2004 FX is a four-channel, high-performance audio power amplifier that can simultaneously drive 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 70 volt, and 100 volt loads in multi-zone systems. Rotary switches on the rear panel make it quick and easy to independently select an output mode per channel to power each zone. This highly efficient Class D amplifier features InstaWake+™, the ability to return to full power from standby in under 5 milliseconds. For maximum flexibility, the total power of two adjacent channels is shared between them, delivering optimal power per channel according to system requirements. The fan-cooled enclosure does not require adjacent empty rack spaces for ventilation and includes front and rear rack mount hardware for stability.

Configurable Output Modes and Flexible Power Allocation

Output modes can be independently configured per channel for 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 70 volt or 100 volt operation, with the option of adding a high pass filter in 70V or 100V mode. This allows a single XPA U 2004 FX amplifier to drive multiple types of speakers simultaneously, saving cost and space.

The total power of each odd/even channel pair is shared between the two channels. This adds to the multi-zone flexibility of the XPA U 2004 FX by allowing a single amplifier to meet the SPL requirements of multiple speaker zones.

The combination of flexible power allocation and configurable output modes allows a single XPA U 2004 FX to accommodate a high power stereo pair of low impedance speakers in addition to multiple zones of 70V or 100V speakers.

InstaWake+

The XPA U 2004 FX includes an auto power-down feature that places the amplifier into standby after 25 minutes of inactivity. When in standby, the XPA U 2004 FX draws minimal power. It quickly comes out of standby upon detection of signal in under 5 milliseconds, fast enough that even the sharpest beginning of audio is not cut off. When coming out of standby, the XPA U 2004 FX draws minimal inrush current, creating no sudden demand on power systems. For applications where the amplifier is required to remain active at all times, the auto-standby feature can be easily disabled.

Compact Installations

The fan-cooled XPA U 2004 FX doesn't require adjacent empty rack spaces for cooling, allowing it to consume less rack space than competing amplifiers. Combined with hundreds of precise design choices, this enables many XPA U 2004 FX units to be efficiently stacked in an equipment rack.

Designed by Extron

All circuits in an Extron power amplifier are designed by our team of dedicated power amplifier engineers, ensuring that each model meets or exceeds our high standards of excellence. By designing everything in-house, Extron engineers can meticulously and effectively optimize for maximum performance, reliability, power efficiency, and reduced heat.

Rock-Solid Reliability

Product reliability is a high priority at Extron and we go to great lengths to engineer products with industry-leading low failure rates, driven by rigorous testing of everything we ship. The elimination of short-lived electrolytic capacitors in the signal path, PCB designs that exclude the use of failure-prone wire harnesses, the use of long life fans, and accelerated burn-in testing ensure the XPA U 2004 FX will provide many years of service.

Features

  • Four 200 watt channels into 8 ohms, 4 ohms, 70V, or 100V — The XPA U 2004 FX is designed for large, high-powered multi-zone integration projects.
  • Configurable output mode per channel — Allows this single amplifier model to be used in multi-zone installations with unique configurations per channel.
  • Flexible power allocation to match system requirements — 400 total watts is shared between adjacent odd/even channel pairs to provide the right amount of power where it's needed.
  • Auto standby saves energy — Automatically enters standby mode after 25 minutes of inactivity, dramatically reducing power consumption. Auto-standby can be disabled if required.
  • InstaWake+™ exits auto-standby mode in under 5 milliseconds — The XPA U 2004 FX quickly returns to full power in less than 5 ms upon signal detection, with minimal inrush current.
  • HPF selectable for 70V and 100V channel modes — Prevents saturation of speaker transformer cores.
  • Rack-mountable 1U, full rack width enclosure — With the capability to deliver high performance in one rack space, the XPA U 2004 FX reduces rack space requirements for many installations.
  • Rear rack mounts included — The included rear rack mounts are easy to install and provide additional stability.
  • Front to rear fan-cooled — Premium, long lifespan fans that run quietly at low RPM actively push heat away from sensitive components, extending their life. Easy to remove and clean foam air filters maintain airflow performance.
  • Freely stackable while maintaining cool operation
  • Rotary output mode selection switches — Easily, quickly, and reliably select the required output mode.
  • Professional grade signal-to-noise and THD+N performance — The XPA U 2004 FX delivers professional grade performance, featuring 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio and THD+N of less than 0.1%.
  • Ultra low inrush current at power up - no need for power sequencing — Allows multiple XPA Ultra FX series amplifiers to be powered on simultaneously without overloading power circuits. This eliminates the need for power sequencing.
  • Power factor correction - removes harmonic content on AC line — The XPA U 2004 FX features power factor correction technology that smooths out the high peak currents of the amplifier’s current draw, minimizing the presence of high frequency harmonics on the AC power line, preventing audible artifacts from being transmitted to other audio equipment in the system.
  • Rear panel recessed, detented level controls — Provides attenuation of input signals for adjusting audio system gain staging. These controls are located on the rear panel to prevent tampering with level adjustments. Laser etched markings provide enhanced visibility of settings for ease of configuration.
  • Remote standby port — Enables the XPA U 2004 FX to be remotely powered down when not in use, reducing operating cost.
  • Automatic clip limiter — Detects actual onset of clipping. Gain is automatically reduced without audible artifacts to protect speakers from clipping distortion.
  • Multiple protection circuits — Activate during output shorts, thermal overload, or DC faults to prevent damage to the amplifier and speakers.
  • 5 mm screw-lock captive screw speaker connectors — Enable simple, secure connections with 22 to 12 AWG speaker cables.
  • Front and rear-mounted signal and protection indication LEDs — Provide convenient indication of input signal presence and protection circuit activation from both sides of an equipment rack.
  • Front panel over-temperature LED — Provides visual indication that the amplifier's temperature has exceeded the optimal value, well in advance of the onset of thermal protection circuitry.
  • Internal Extron Everlast™ power supply — Provides worldwide power compatibility, with high?demonstrated reliability and low power consumption for reduced operating cost.
  • Extron Everlast Power Supply is covered by a 7?year parts and labor warranty
