Specification

The Extron FOX3 T 311 PC Fiber Optic Transmitter is a compact single-slot module designed for the PowerCage 411 enclosure that provides HDMI video, USB HID, stereo audio, and control signal extension over fiber. Engineered for exceptional high resolution image performance, it uses Extron all-digital technology to deliver perfect pixel-for-pixel, uncompressed transmission of images up to 4K/60 @ 4:4:4 over two fibers or mathematically lossless 4K/60 video over one fiber. The USB HID port applies device class filtering to restrict the device types to HID. Designed specifically for AV and KVM systems, the transmitter includes many integrator-friendly features such as Key Minder®, EDID Minder®, audio embedding, and real-time system monitoring.

The FOX3 T 311 PC is part of the extensive FOX3 Series of fiber optic products from Extron and is compatible with the complete line of FOX3 Series receivers. It can be used for simple point-to-point applications or in combination with FOX3 Series matrix switchers for support of enterprise installations.

The single-slot design of the FOX3 T 311 PC allows for as many as four modules to be populated in the PowerCage 411 enclosure, enabling up to four fiber optic transmitters in a 1U rack space. This reduces system installation time and simplifies power management. The module is also hot-swappable, allowing replacement in the field at any time without having to power down the system. The compact, PowerCage 411 enclosure provides optimal, forced-air cooling of the installed modules, Ethernet control and monitoring, as well as a redundant power supply to ensure reliable operation in critical environments.

The FOX3 T 311 PC transmitter only supports USB HID signal extension for environments that require high security, eliminating the need for additional IP network drops, equipment, software, drivers, or USB extenders. Integrated USB signal extension enables connection to peripheral devices over the same fiber optic cable as video and audio, making it ideal for KVM - Keyboard, Video, and Mouse applications. This simplifies integration by avoiding IT-specific design criteria that might conflict with the needs of KVM switching in professional AV installations.

To streamline integration with digital devices, the module features two Extron technologies: EDID Minder and Key Minder. EDID Minder automatically manages EDID by maintaining continuous EDID communication between connected devices, ensuring that the source powers up properly and maintains video output for display. For digital video signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption to support quick and reliable switching in professional AV environments. This technology also enables simultaneous distribution of a single source signal to one or more displays.

The FOX3 T 311 PC accepts and digitizes unbalanced stereo audio and RS?232 control signals, transmitting them along with the HDMI signal. Analog audio can be converted to HDMI digital audio, allowing the integration of either embedded HDMI audio or analog audio input. The transmitter can be configured and controlled using the USB, Ethernet, or RS?232 port on the enclosure.

The PowerCage 411 enclosure and modules are ideal for a wide range of applications requiring long distance transmission of high resolution content with the highest quality. Because transmission of content is inherently secure and immune to outside interference, fiber applications are favored in government, military, and medical environments. The transmitters feature industry standard LC-type connectivity.

The module is available in four versions, a multimode and a singlemode lossless version as well as a multimode and a singlemode uncompressed version. The FOX3 T 311 PC MM versions support multimode fiber at 850 nm, which is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances of up to 500 m (1640 feet). The FOX3 T 311 PC SM versions support singlemode fiber at 1310 nm, offering long-range transmission capability over extreme distances of up to 20 km (12.4 miles), typically used in very large facilities such as airports and stadiums, as well as connecting over very long distances between facilities such as at corporate and university campuses.

The Extron FOX3 Series, which includes the FOX3 T 311 PC for the PowerCage 411, provides system designers and integrators with high performance fiber optic distribution solutions designed, engineered, and manufactured by Extron to meet the most demanding requirements of critical video and audio distribution applications. From point-to-point extension to fully non-blocking matrix applications up to 2000x2000 and beyond, FOX3 Systems securely deliver unrivaled performance and reliability to satisfy even the most discerning users.
