The HyperLink brand antennas in this section are ideal for Distributed Antenna System (DAS) applications. DAS systems are used to distribute Cellular and WiFi signals throughout a building or area. These wideband antennas eliminate the need to purchase different antennas for each frequency being used. A Distributed Antenna System (DAS) involves the use of several antennas as opposed to one antenna to provide wireless coverage to the same area but with reduced total power and additional reliability. Often times a DAS uses RF directional couplers and/or wireless amplifiers to split and amplify the wireless signal from the source out to the distributed antennas. In many cases a DAS will use a combination of low loss coaxial cabling as well as fiber optic cabling supporting radio over fiber (RoF) technology to distribute the wireless signals to the antennas. A Distributed Antenna System can be designed for use indoors or outdoors and can be used to provide wireless coverage to hotels, subways, airports, hospitals, businesses, roadway tunnels etc. The wireless services typically provided by a DAS include PCS, cellular, Wi-Fi, police, fire, and emergency services.
The key to providing the best performance in a DAS application is to ensure the components used are low PIM rated. This helps meet the increasing demand for higher data rates and the ability to provide streaming video for mobile devices. Multiple–Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas have two or more antennas in a single physical package and are designed for use in IEEE 802.11n wireless networks. By utilizing multiple antennas, data throughput and range are increased compared to a single antenna using the same radio transmit power. Additionally MIMO antennas improve link reliability and experience less fading than a single antenna system. By transmitting multiple data streams at the same time, wireless capacity is increased. MIMO technology uses Multipath (when wireless signals “bounce” off of objects and arrive at the receiver at different times) to improve wireless performance. MIMO technology takes a single data stream and breaks it down into several separate data streams and sends it out over multiple antennas. This provides redundancy.
