The Extron XPA U 4004 FX is an ENERGY STAR qualified, four-channel, high-performance audio power amplifier that can deliver 400 watts simultaneously into 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 70 volt, and 100 volt loads in multi-zone systems. Rotary switches on the rear panel make it quick and easy to independently select an output mode per channel to power each zone. This highly efficient amplifier includes ECO Standby with InstaWake+ that transparently and automatically maximizes the time in its lowest power state, for the most energy savings possible. For maximum flexibility, the total power of two adjacent 400 watt channels is shared, delivering up to 800 watts per single channel, according to system requirements. The fan-cooled enclosure does not require adjacent empty rack spaces and includes front and rear rack mount hardware for stability.

Configurable Output Modes and Flexible Power Allocation

Output modes can be independently configured per channel for 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 70 volt or 100 volt operation, with the option of adding a high pass filter in 70V or 100V mode. This allows a single XPA U 4004 FX amplifier to drive multiple types of speakers simultaneously, saving cost and space.

The total power of each odd/even channel pair is shared between the two channels. This adds to the multi-zone flexibility of the XPA U 4004 FX by allowing a single amplifier to meet the SPL requirements of multiple speaker zones.

The combination of flexible power allocation and configurable output modes allows a single XPA U 4004 FX to accommodate a high power stereo pair of low impedance speakers in addition to multiple zones of 70V or 100V speakers.

InstaWake+ with Intelligent ECO Standby

The XPA U 4004 FX includes intelligent ECO Standby technology that places the amplifier into standby after just a few seconds of inactivity. When in standby, it draws under one watt of power. When signal is detected, it comes out of standby in under 5 milliseconds, fast enough that even the sharpest beginning of audio is not cut off. This exclusive Extron technology transparently maximizes the amplifier's time in its lowest power state to conserve more power than ever before. For applications where the amplifier is required to remain active at all times, the auto-standby and ECO Standby features can be easily and independently disabled.

Compact Installations

The fan-cooled XPA U 4004 FX doesn't require adjacent empty rack spaces for cooling, allowing it to consume less rack space than competing amplifiers. Combined with hundreds of precise design choices, this enables many XPA U 4004 FX units to be efficiently stacked in an equipment rack.

• Power factor correction - removes harmonic content on AC line — The XPA U 4004 FX features power factor correction technology that smooths out the high peak currents of the amplifier’s current draw, minimizing the presence of high frequency harmonics on the AC power line, preventing audible artifacts from being transmitted to other audio equipment in the system.
• Rear panel recessed, detented level controls — Provides attenuation of input signals for adjusting audio system gain staging. These controls are located on the rear panel to prevent tampering with level adjustments. Laser etched markings provide enhanced visibility of settings for ease of configuration.
• Remote standby port — Enables the XPA U 4004 FX to be remotely powered down when not in use, reducing operating cost.
• Automatic clip limiter — Detects actual onset of clipping. Gain is automatically reduced without audible artifacts to protect speakers from clipping distortion.
• Multiple protection circuits — Activate during output shorts, thermal overload, or DC faults to prevent damage to the amplifier and speakers.
• Minimal inrush current when exiting standby allows for operation without extra power sequencing hardware
