Brochure

The Extron PowerCage 411 is a compact 1U rack-mountable, 4-slot enclosure that supports Extron FOX3 series fiber optic extenders. Engineered with uncompromising quality and proven performance to provide an efficient way to power, manage, and mount multiple extenders, the PowerCage 411 simplifies integration for large, rack-mounted systems as well as user workstations with multiple computers. The PowerCage 411 features a redundant, hot-swappable power supply plus active thermal management to optimize reliability in mission-critical environments where continuous, 24/7 operation is essential. The hot-swappable, modular design allows for replacing or upgrading boards in the field at any time, without having to power down the system. The compact 1U enclosure includes front panel controls for set-up and configuration without a computer.

Modular Design Provides Maximum Flexibility

The PowerCage 411 can be populated with up to four extender modules to meet system needs, making it an ideal solution for larger systems that need to support remote devices. For example, matrix switchers generally reside in equipment racks, which are typically at some distance away from both the source equipment and display devices. In general, a mixture of transmitters and receivers are utilized to distribute signals to and from these locations, often with the need to overcome specific challenges such as limited conduit space as well as distance limitations. The ability to accommodate multiple extenders within a single enclosure streamlines system design and installation. The modular hot-swappable design also offers a degree of future-proofing, whereby unpopulated slots are available to support system growth without additional rack space, system downtime, or equipment relocation.

System Monitoring and Control

The PowerCage 411 is ideal for use in applications with a centralized control system that require the long-haul transmission of HDMI, USB, audio, and control signals over fiber optic cabling. Bidirectional RS?232 signals can be sent from a control system to the modules via the Ethernet port on the PowerCage enclosure. Each module can be configured to provide the RS?232 signal on its local port or to insert the command data into the fiber optic signal, enabling RS?232 control of a local or remote device and eliminating the need for separate control system wiring.

The front panel LCD display and real-time status indicators offer instant feedback for power status, communication, and installed board model for each of the four slots. RS-232 and USB configuration ports on the enclosure enable communication to each module slot for configuration and convenient setup of the fiber optic extenders.

Robust Design for Mission-Critical Installations

For added power reliability, some 24-hour environments require two separate AC power sources, one as the primary source and the second for redundancy. The PowerCage 411 offers dual redundant and hot-swappable power supplies along with dual AC power inputs for continuous connection to both power sources. Exceptional thermal management enables optimal cooling and superior reliability. Air flows from the front of the unit and exhausts out the rear of the enclosure for optimal cooling. These features ensure continuous operation in crucial installations.

Housed in a compact 1U enclosure, the PowerCage 411 can be mounted in a rack as well as within a lectern or under a desk. It eliminates the need to manage individual power supplies and minimizes required rack space when factoring in the compact size of each extender module and reduced rack units necessary for heat dissipation and cooling.

Features

  • Space-saving design with a compact, 1U rack-mountable enclosure — Streamlines installation by reducing the space required in racks and under desks for AV signal extenders and eliminates the need for an individual power supply for each unit.
  • Accommodates up to four modules — Provides a convenient, configurable rack-mount solution for long-haul signal extension and flexibility for future system growth.
  • Modular, field-upgradeable, and hot?swappable design — Additional modules may be added at any time for quick and easy upgradeability or expansion. Hot?swappable components allow the user to replace modules or a power supply at any time without the need to power down the system. This is especially useful for mission-critical applications that require continuous system operation.
  • Ethernet monitoring and control — Enables control and proactive monitoring over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet using standard TCP/IP protocols.
  • Dual redundant and hot?swappable power supplies — Primary and back?up power supplies provide added reliability for critical applications.
  • RS?232 insertion from the Ethernet port — Each extender module can be configured to provide the RS?232 signal on its local output or insert the commands into the fiber optic signal. Provides system level device control to a local or remote AV device via the enclosure's Ethernet port without needing additional cabling.
  • Dual AC power connectors — For added power reliability, some 24?hour environments require two separate AC power sources, one as the primary source and the second for redundancy. The enclosure provides two AC power inputs for continuous connection to both power sources.
  • Front panel LCD display and controls for easy setup and troubleshooting — Facilitates quick setup of system parameters without the need to connect a computer.
  • Exceptional thermal management — Provides air flow to each module for optimal cooling and reliable operation.
  • Front panel security lockout — Prevents unauthorized use in non-secure environments. In lockout mode, a special button combination is required to operate the unit from the front panel controller.
  • RS-232 control port — Enables control and configuration of the enclosure and installed modules.
  • SNMP support for remote monitoring — Supports network monitoring for the operational health of network-attached devices.
  • Secure Ethernet communication using SSH - Secure Shell protocol — Ensures communication between the control system and the PowerCage is encrypted.
  • Front panel USB configuration port — Provides convenient access for setup, configuration, and firmware updates.
  • Easy setup and commissioning with Extron's PCS - Product Configuration Software — Conveniently configure multiple products using a single software application.
  • Variable speed fans — Reduces noise levels by only operating as needed.
  • Internal Extron Everlast™ power supply — Provides worldwide power compatibility, with high?demonstrated reliability and low power consumption for reduced operating cost
  • Extron Everlast Power Supply is covered by a 7?year parts and labor warranty
